Popular furniture store could be replaced by housing

A popular furniture store in Stansted could be replaced by new housing.

Plans have been submitted to build new houses on the site of 'You're Furnished' in Cambridge Road once the store closes down.

Uttlesford District Council have announced to cambridge-news.co.uk that further details surrounding the plans are set to be made public within the next week. This will give them time to check and validate the planning application. 

A number of letting agents in Cambridge will no doubt be keeping their ears pricked for this announcement.

If the scheme is successful, it will be the second new housing project to be approved in Cambridge Road in the last 12 months. Planning permission to build five new homes on the former site of Agar Scientific offices was granted in April.  

The closure of the 'You're Furnished' store marks the end of an 11-year trading period in the area for store owner Cy Fogel.

In an interview with The Herts and Essex Observer, he revealed plans to expand his other branch in Bambers Green in order to cut down on costs and save staff from redundancies.

He said: "I think the change is hopefully going to be for the better. I won't have to make anyone redundant - they'll just be transferring straight over."
